Thank you for a wonderful 22 years!

As we start to sunset, we are planning to focus on our food truck business, and are looking for new owners to continue the Oxford Creamery tradition. During this time, we’re downsizing – we’ll be offering a limited menu out of the food truck, located in the parking lot at Oxford Creamery.

Our Story

For the town of Mattapoisett, Oxford Creamery is more than a spot on the map.

The almost perpetual line outside the door on hot summer days says a lot about its reputation. Part ice cream shop, part short order restaurant, Oxford is local New England in every sense of the word. The fresh lobster rolls, clam cakes, sandwiches, hamburgers, hotdogs and, of course, ice cream are favorites for locals, summer visitors, and those just passing through.

“Stop by for a dose of nostalgia, a cup of chowder, two scoops of ice cream, and plenty of good conversation.”

From April to October, Oxford Creamery’s picnic tables are packed with families enjoying the best from the kitchen. Not much has changed since the shop first opened as Gulf Hill Ice Cream in 1931. Situated on what was once the main thoroughfare to Cape Cod, the creamery gained a following early on. In those days G.I.’s going to Camp Edwards used to stop in for a few scoops along with summer vacationers headed east.

In 2003, Ken and Liz Ackerman purchased the business from Donald Blanchette who had kept it a staple of Mattapoisett for 20+ years as Oxford Creamery. As the saying goes, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Now heading into their 22nd season, Ken and Liz haven’t changed much at the creamery (except the addition of some sweet potato fries.) The small white shop looks much the same as it did in 1931, and they still make the Creamery’s coveted recipes. On most days, both of them can be behind the counter with their dedicated staff, many of them high school and college students, serving their loyal customers.

Stop by for a dose of nostalgia, a cup of chowder, two scoops of ice cream, and plenty of good conversation.
